Wine tour of the Barossa Valley
$135 AUD inc GST
9am-5pm Sunday 24 August (full-day)
 (Not available)
[+] Details

The Barossa Valley is Australia's best known and most historic wine region. The region produces some of the country's finest wines, with names such as Rockford, Penfolds, Seppelt, Yalumba, and Peter Lehmann all based in the Barossa. Barossa winemakers craft brilliant Shiraz and are the custodians of some of the oldest Shiraz vines in the world. Other varieties grown include Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Semillon, Riesling and Viognier.

Settled mainly by immigrant Lutherans, the Barossa is passionate about celebrating its heritage and traditions. Its culinary traditions are obvious at the numerous butchers, bakeries, restaurants, farmers' market and wineries, while nineteenth century European influences are reflected in the churches, shops and homes in each of the pretty towns.

Highlights include:

  • An informative private tasting at Peter Lehmanns Wines to taste the wines that made them International Winemaker of the Year and Australian Wine Producer of the Year at the 2003 International Wine and Spirit Competition, London. Sample their premium wines with the opportunity to discuss your tastings with qualified, knowledgeable winery staff.
  • Maggie Beer's Farmshop to taste the range of seasonal treats of the region in a beautiful setting, perched on the side of a huge dam surrounded by vines and olives founded by Maggie Beer, cook, writer and owner of Maggie Beer products.
  • Lunch in a winery setting where you can savour the region's distinctive cuisine.
  • A visit to Kabminye or St Hallet's—a small winery that offers warmth and hospitality in restored 1850's buildings. They produce a range of premium traditional Australian wines.
  • A visit to Yalumba or Seppeltsfield to see the awe inspiring heritage buildings and sample the wines of these two "big" names in the industry.
